Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
What is NLP?
NLP, or Neuro-Linguistic Programming, looks at the link between how we think, the language we use with ourselves, and the way we end up behaving. The idea is that the words and images we repeat internally shape the experience we have.
In simple words, NLP helps you notice the patterns running underneath a reaction, and then work with them deliberately rather than being carried along by them.
For example, if someone freezes before speaking in a meeting, an NLP session may involve finding the thought that arrives just before the freeze, understanding what it is protecting, and building a different response to reach for instead.
How can it help?
It can help with patterns such as:
- Self-talk that turns critical under pressure
- A specific fear, such as speaking, driving or flying
- Confidence that disappears in particular situations
- Habits that continue despite genuinely wanting to change
- Feeling stuck between two options and unable to decide
- Carrying a label about yourself that no longer fits
NLP tends to suit a clear, nameable block rather than open-ended exploration, and it sits comfortably alongside coaching, counselling or the other approaches offered here.
How is it done?
Sessions are conversational. We start from a specific situation and look closely at what happens in it — what you see, say to yourself and feel, and in what order. From there we work with that sequence directly, through reframing, anchoring a calmer state, or rehearsing a different response until it feels available to you.
Over time, the goal is not to think positively about the situation, but to have a genuine second option in the moment where you previously had only one.
